Violet Ann DeAngelo

Sweet Violet was born on May 15, 1929, to Mary Supernavage and Robert Rhoades. She grew up on the family's farm in Fountain Springs, PA. She was of Lithuanian descent. Violet moved to Penns Grove, NJ in 1939 at the age of 10 and went to St. James Grammar School and graduated Penns Grove High School in 1948. During her high school years, she was a majorette in the band, enjoyed roller skating with her friends and worked at the Broad Street Theater and Morris' Seafood Restaurant in town. She ventured out of Penns Grove and became a waitress at Chalfont Haddon Hall in Atlantic City during the summer. Violet came back home to work at a diner on Main Street where she met her true love, Sammy DeAngelo. He walked her home every night after work. They were married on November 8, 1952 and had three loving daughters: Maryann, Valerie and Debbie. She was a housewife until the sudden death of her husband, Sammy in 1974. Violet then became a cashier at PGHS cafeteria until her retirement. In 1976, she met Milt Neff who became a long-time loving companion until his passing. Violet was loved dearly and the matriarch of the family. She especially loved all her five grandchildren, Christopher, Nicole, Samara, Larry Jr. and Selena. Through the years, you would often find her babysitting her older grandson, Chris and her youngest granddaughter Selena. Selena took extra care of her Mom Mom. She would fix her many meals, bring her sweets and call throughout the day to check on her girl! Mom Mom looked forward to her calls which brought a smile to her face. Each of her grandchildren has taken her quality of love and compassion of others and animals. She was a great caretaker of us all. Violet enjoyed the outdoors. You could find her sitting on the porch waving to the locals and watching the birds and clouds go by. Everyone had a chance to take a plate of scraps outside to feed the birds and animals in the neighborhood. Nothing went to waste in her house! Vi enjoyed cooking large meals for her family and they were always ready for the leftovers to take home! She was known for her Egg McMuffins, fruit salad, soups, pineapple upside-down cake and many Italian and Lithuanian dinners. The holidays were her favorite time to shine! She always had a variety of foods with ultimate flavor. Her favorite food was crabs. She would spend hours eating crabs getting every morsel of crabmeat out then boiling the shells to make crab broth for soup. Her favorite snacks were sweets, candy and anything chocolate. In between cooking, she enjoyed crocheting, making crafts and word search books which she was very good at. When you walked into her house, the aroma of food filled the air and the extra loud volume on the TV was known as she was watching WWE wrestling. She enjoyed watching wrestling since the 70's. Violet was blessed to be able to live in the homes and be cared for by her daughters Debbie and Valerie along with their husbands Rob and Larry and granddaughters Selena and Samara. Rob has gone above and beyond in the caretaking of Mom. He humbly took on personal tasks that most men would not endure. He was her ultimate handyman too. Violet saw Rob and Larry as her sons, not sons in law. She held a very special place in their hearts. Debbie saved Mom's life which enabled her to stay on this earth a little longer. They all fought tirelessly to keep her comfortable and happy which was all well deserved. In her later years, her great grandchildren occupied her time. She loved watching them run around. You could often find Mom Mom playing games with 4-year-old Alivia. We called Alivia her second caretaker because she was always eager to help in any way. Now that her granddaughter Selena is with child, she will now have her name sake, NOVA VIOLET, to carry on her presence! Violet DeAngelo has led a beautiful life with her family! We will miss her dearly and carry on her legacy. We love you very much, until we meet again in Heaven! Violet is survived by her daughters Maryann Einsel and her husband Eric, Valerie Newman and her husband Larry and Debbie Sassi and her husband Rob; her grandchildren Christopher Morris, Nicole Britton, Samara Newman, Larry Newman Jr., Tammie Sassi, Rob Sassi Jr. and Selena Sassi; and her great grandchildren Alivia Newman, Larry Newman III, Laylani Newman, Angel Sassi, Lucy Sassi, Brianna Sassi, Haley Sassi, Anthony Sassi, Olivia Sassi and baby Nova Violet on the way. Services will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at Adams Funeral Home, 64 Broad Street, Woodstown, NJ 08098. There will be a visitation starting at 11 AM leading to the funeral service at 12 Noon. Interment will follow at Lawnside Cemetery in Woodstown. www.adamsfuneralhome.org
