Vincent "Enzo" Savarese

The world has lost a kind and gentle man in the passing of Vincent “Enzo” Savarese on December 16, 20l3. He leaves to mourn his death his wife, Mariann (nee Pepperess). His son Vincent Brian (Patricia), his daughters Antonia, and Danielle (Donald) Redfield; his grandsons David, Ryan, Alex Redfield, and his granddaughter Jenna Savarese; his siblings Antonio and Pasquale (Teresa) Savarese with their families, nieces Bianca (Robert) Moussally, and Christine Scotto, with their families, brother-in-law Russell (Delores) Pepperess with their families, and cousin Ugo Savarese of Naples, Italy. He was predeceased by his parents Antonio and Assunta , his sister Mother Superior Patrizia Savarese, his sister Ninetta (Verio) Mattias all of Naples, Italy. Born in Naples, on January 25, 1924, he worked at the U. S. Consulate in Naples from the age of fourteen as a messenger and file clerk. He spent many hours after work being tutored in the English language. He worked diligently and was assigned as an interviewer of Italian emigrants to the US before issuing them a visa. As fate would have it, he issued a visa to a priest, Father Anthony Pesce, who was assigned to the St. James Parish in Penns Grove, and was destined to marry the same Vincent and Mariann. While on vacation in Italy, happenstance brought them together to a destined meeting in the U. S. Consulate in Naples, where they fell in love. They were married in a civil service in Naples. This was followed by a church wedding in St. James by the same Father Pesce. Upon coming to America on the “Andria Doria” , Vincent quickly adapted to the American way of life so that his wife could remain close to her family. His desire to be fruitful led him to try many endeavors, including becoming a partner in a pizzeria in Penns Grove, then in Delaware on Price’s Corner,and finally in Woodstown (Brienzo’s) . However, he discovered that his forte was in real estate, first with Lower Delaware Valley with his brother-in-law Russell Pepperess, then he started his own office on Shell Road with his son, Vincent Brian. Vincent was always a man of high principle and leaves a sterling legend for his children and grandchildren to follow. Everyone who had the pleasure to meet and know him undoubtedly became a better person and was happy to be his friend. Despite his affliction, he accepted it with dignity and never complained but carried on with increasing faith and hope in the future of his adopted country, which he loved before he even settled here. However , he loved his Naples, his sailing on the Bay of Naples with his American co-workers and Consulate General, his Italian music, and most of all, his espresso that he enjoyed every morning with his son and son-in-law , and ever-ending stream of friends that looked forward to being in his company. Enzo will never be forgotten for his wisdom and his kindness. Rest in peace, Enzo. You very well deserve it, but you will be forever remembered with love. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 11 AM at the Parish of St. Gabriel the Archangel R.C. Church, 369 Georgetown Road, Carneys Point, NJ 08069. Visitations will be held on Thursday night, December 19, 2013 from 7-9 PM and on Friday morning, December 20, 2013 from 9:30-10:30 AM at Adams Funeral Home, 18 E. Maple Avenue, Penns Grove, NJ 08069. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Woodstown following mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish Improvement Fund, 369 Georgetown Road, Carneys Point, NJ 08069. www.adamsfuneralhome.org
