Crispin Lopes, Jr. Crispin, lovingly known as ‘Pop, ' had the most compassionate and generous soul, giving his time, knowledge, and wisdom. He taught us the importance of being kind, approaching every situation with the utmost integrity and working to maintain harmony in all relationships. Crispin always lent a helping hand quietly, acting with humility and selfless service, whether painting hopscotches on playgrounds, painting/fixing church rectories, fulfilling civil and architectural design requests or helping neighbors and taking an extra couple of minutes to share a friendly conversation accompanied by a cup of tea. Crispin Lopes, Jr., age 94 of Pennsville, New Jersey transitioned out of his physical body on Monday, 2 March 2026 at his residence. The son of Catherine Badolato-Lopes and Crespin G. Lopes, Crispin was born in Penns Grove, New Jersey. He graduated from Penns Grove Regional High School, Class of 1949, where he played basketball, baseball and was quarterback on the football team. Crispin then joined the Air Force and was based in Japan while serving in the Korean War. Upon completing his Military Service, Crispin began a long and successful career with the DuPont de Nemours Company – Chambers Works and attended Rutgers University to pursue a Civil Engineering Degree. He finished his career at DuPont as a Supervisor in the Design Group. Meanwhile, Crispin also worked as a land surveyor for W. W. Summerill, where he became an expert on the geography of Southern New Jersey. Ultimately, Crispin was truly an engineer in both heart and mind. His intellectual curiosity not only guided him to solve math and physics equations for pleasure until the end of his life but allowed him to become the highest quality problem-solver. He constantly asked questions in his pursuit of knowledge and drive to gain a better understanding of all topics. A model airplane enthusiast, Crispin delighted in all things airplanes and aviation. He built a large collection of radio-controlled models that he crafted and flew with his friends. He even constructed and flew his own designs developed from his drawings of actual War Birds. More importantly, Crispin was extremely dedicated to his family and loved ones. In 1952, he married his wife, Margaret, and they built a life of more than 60 years together. They enjoyed travel, spending time visiting family and dear friends, religious studies with church friends, the establishment of the Queen of Apostles Lenten Lunches, the menu and preparation of those weekly meals, open to anyone in the community. In retirement, Pop spent even more time doting on his grandchildren and cherished great conversation with great people over a cup of coffee. After frequenting the local diners, Crispin and his wife, Margaret, befriended the employees and became ingrained in the Turkish community, earning the titles of ‘American Mom and Dad.’ This was foundational and considered a crucial time of their lives. Crispin is survived by children, Elizabeth Regina Lopes with whom he lived and Crispin Mark Lopes; grandchildren, Catherine Bobbitt, Phillip Bobbitt (Brandi), Anthony Lopes (Stacy), Crispin Martin Lopes, and Nicholas Lopes (Victoria). Survivors also include his brother Robert (Elizabeth O.) Lopes (known as Tex), and many nieces and nephews. Crispin was predeceased by his parents, Catherine Badolato and Crespin G. Lopes, sisters, Anna and Theresa, and brothers, Stephan and Michael. A funeral service shall be held on Tuesday, 10 March 2026 at Adams Funeral Home (64 Broad Street, Woodstown, NJ 08098) with an opportunity to greet the family. Visitation commences at 10:00 AM followed by the service at 11:00 AM.
