Ethel May Josephsen

Ethel May Josephsen, age 92, of Pennsville went home to be with Jesus on Sunday evening, November 1, 2020 with her family by her side. Born in Dorothy, N.J., May 9, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Frances (Tepel ) Richert. She was a graduate of Millville High School and started work as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone in Salem. She then took on her most important job of being homemaker and mother, taking several years to raise her children. Later, she worked as the secretary for Laury Heating Company in Pennsville. Ethel was a great cook and was known for hosting elaborate annual family Christmas parties. She also loved to have couples over for dinner before playing Skip-Bo, UNO, and Dominoes. She also introduced her grandchildren to playing Dominoes, leaving them with awesome memories. Ethel loved helping Harry keep their flower beds at their Mannington home immaculate. She loved shopping for that perfect outfit for their cruises, worldwide travel, and church. As one of the original members of the First Assembly of God Church in Carneys Point, she will be remembered as a spiritual giant, albeit very soft-spoken, and a woman of incredible faith. For many years she volunteered to drive cancer patients to Christiana for their treatments as well as opened her home to care for her brother Charles and her mother- in-law. As a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sibling, Ethel never missed a birthday or holiday celebration. She will be remembered for her generosity, sweetness, and faithfulness. Ethel is survived by her children, Glenn Josephsen (Arlene Harris) of Pennsville, Donna Duber and her husband, Glenn, also of Pennsville and John Josephsen and his wife, Michele, of Manahawkin; her grandchildren, Michael Josephsen (Kristina), Krista Josephsen, Connor Josephsen (Kelsey), and Lindsey Gambacorta (Cory), her great grandchildren Logan, Hannah, and Hudson, and sister-in-law Chrisana Richert of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. Ethel was predeceased by her husband of sixty years, Harry L. Josephsen; and her siblings, Charles Richert, Frank Richert, George Richert , Beatrice Davidson, Lillian Jordan, Mildred Schaser Pleis, Violet East, Florence Allen, and Edith Winsinger, and grandson, Derek Duber. Services will be held on Monday, November 9, 2020 at the First Assembly of God, 380 Georgetown Rd. Carneys Point, NJ 08069. There will be a visitation starting at 10 AM followed by a service at 11 AM. Interment will be at Lawnside Cemetery in Woodstown. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Ethel’s memory to Evangelical Bible Mission to the Philippines, 4516 Wellington Dns, Raleigh, NC 27613 or to First Assembly of God, designating Redeeming Roses. For the safety of all, the family requests that masks be worn and regrets that due to Covid, no luncheon will be served.
