Born in New Brunswick, NJ on August 15, 1955 to John L. Melon and Anne L. (Marsland) Melon and passed away on May 9, 2022 of natural causes. Ed is survived by Elizabeth Melon, son Erik Melon with partner Tawny Bettinger and daughter Evonne Melon. Ed was blessed with 3 grandsons: Jasiah, Logan and Cole and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was one of five children: Roger Melon, Michael Melon (deceased), Laurie (Melon) Kersting (deceased) and John Melon. He grew up in Piscataway where he was an enterprising young man with several jobs at an early age. He then moved to south Jersey in 1977 where a lifetime of business ventures began. Green Acres Horticultural Center, Inc. in Newfield, NJ was a commercial potted plant production range servicing retail chains and supermarkets. Then in 1996 he acquired Cannon’ s Garden Center in Folsom, PA which was a full service florist, garden center and gift shop. In 2001 he opened the first of six Candle Hutch stores in various malls in New Jersey and Pennsylvania selling Yankee Candles. At this time he had also begun to rehab and flip 30 houses; which led to the opening of The Rail Bar and Grill in Richland, NJ in 2008. After a few years Ed began to become ill. So after the sale of The Rail in 2017, Ed wrote a published non-fiction novel ‘The Golden Pentangle’. He secured a patent for a Cancer slogan with clip-art. And he created an extensive ‘Bucket List’ which he proceeded to complete in its entirety by August 2021. He had a passion for flowers and could always be found outside on a nice day planting and watering his extensive floral displays and pumpkin gardens. Ed always had a positive attitude and gave a valiant fight, however sadly after years of medical procedures, Ed finally succumbed to his illness, but not before finding The Lord. Services will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Adams Funeral Home, 64 Broad Street, Woodstown, NJ 08098. There will be a visitation starting at 10 AM leading to the funeral service at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Olivet Cemetery in Pittsgrove, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Ed's memory to the American Cancer Society by going to www.cancer.org.
