Catherine Marie Bevers

Catherine Marie Bevers, 82, of Penns Grove passed away on October 16, 2013. Born in Swedesboro on January 16, 1932 to the late William & Catherine Rieger. Her early years was spent in Swedesboro but moved to Penns Grove in 1936. Mrs. Bevers graduated from both St. James Grammar and St. James High Schools as the Valedictorian. In 1952 she graduated as a Registered Nurse from Wilmington Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. During her children’s school years, she was very active in PTA work as a volunteer, officer and Board Member for many years. During the 50’s and 60’s she was employed at Wilmington Memorial Hospital in many areas including the Blood Bank, Recovery Room, Medical Surgical Unit, Intensive Care Unit and Private Duty. From 1968 thru 1994 she was employed at the Memorial Hospital of Salem County, first on the Medical Surgical Unit and then in the Intensive Care Unit as Head Nurse until she became the Critical Care Coordinator. Her areas of responsibility included Intensive Care, Telemetry, Emergency Room, EKG, Outpatient Chemotherapy, Nursing Risk Management and Quality Assurance. Mrs. Bevers was also instrumental in developing the High School Students Shadowing Day and developing a Critical Care Course for South Jersey Critical Care Areas. Active on many committees; Middle Nurse Managers of Southern New Jersey, MHSC, Employee Day, Past President of MHSC Auxiliary and Board Member, Past Member of the Board of Trustees of MHSC, Co-Founder and President of Middle Nurse Managers of Southern New Jersey, Past Member of the Board of Directors of Salem County Office on Aging, Salem County 2000, Delaware AACN, Southern New Jersey Perinatal Cooperative, New Jersey Council of Auxiliaries. Member of the Penns Grove – Carney’s Point Historical Society, Corpus Christi R.C. Church and Altar & Rosary Society, Washington Club, Penns Grove – Carney’s Point Library, active volunteer at the Memorial Hospital of Salem County, member of Senior Circle of MHSC, member of Wilmington Memorial Hospital School of Nursing Alumni, Employee of the Year at MHSC, Master Auxilian, Member of Quarter of Century Club of MHSC, ONE N.J., AACN, N.J. State Nurses Association, ANA, SEPAACN, among others. She was an avid sports fan, traveled to many countries but family was her main priority. Enjoyed making crafts, reading, music, baking, making candy and cooking. Mickey Mouse and Disney were her favorites and she enjoyed taking her grandchildren to Disneyland and other places. She is survived by her husband, Donald Henry Bevers, Sr., children, Sharon (Michael) Gallogly, Linda Macey and Donald Jr., (Kim); grandchildren, Renee (Chris) Tracewell, Angela (Scott) Haines, Danielle Judge (Laura), Christopher Macey, Jr., Amanda (Justin) Buckley, Ryan Macey, Matthew Macey and Brittney Bevers; great grandchildren, Megan Tracewell, Emily Tracewell, Zackary Haines, Logan Judge, Rylee Judge and Justin Buckley; brothers, Edward (Arleen) Rieger, Pennsville, NJ and James (Mary) Rieger, Ashburn, VA; brother-in-law, Lester (Betty) Bevers, Wisconsin and sister-in-law, Sandra (Bevers) (Leo) Coonen, Wisconsin; In addition to her parents, her son-in-law, Christopher Macey, Sr., sister-in-laws, Lavern Bevers Mathis ( Jacob Mathis), Betty Bevers Verstigen (Jerry Verstigen) (Merlin Verstigen) predeceased her. A visitation will be held on Sunday night, October 20, 2013 from 5 until 7 PM at the Adams Funeral Home, 18 E. Maple Ave., Penns Grove, NJ 08069 and again Monday morning, October 21st, from 9:30 till 10:30 am at the funeral home as well. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM at the St Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 369 Georgetown Rd., Carney’s Point, NJ 08069. Interment at St. Joseph’s R.C.
